Metal and the Radio

I have lived in a small town my whole life. The radio stations went from am and then transitioned into fm. So as a child I was bombarded with country music and pop whenever I wanted to listen to the radio. In the car my dad would have the local country station and in the house my sisters would have the local pop station. It was torture. I admit there was some good country music, but when it came to pop music, i hated every second and every note. Pop music to me was so fake. Artists needed to change their horrible vocals with autotune which is fake and the public fall for it.
So where was and is Metal in the radio industry? Sure we have Satellite radio stations and online radio websites that are strictly metal but what about the daily drive or you don't have access to Sat. or online? The FM radio stations that are dedicated to rock music or as they call it "The Classics", play about 5% metal music which is safe for the public ie no cursing, violence or sex. Which is nuts because KISS, Motley Crue, Poison etc is all about sex and drugs. Nightwish, Manowar, Arch Enemy and even Dimmu Borgir tell stories and radio stations are afraid to play them. There are so many missed opportunities for great metal bands to be enjoyed by many. But local, small town radio is either too afraid or just too stupid to take the chance of making their station more popular.
